Embryo transfer is a procedure performed without analgesia or anesthesia. It consists of depositing the embryos in the endometrial cavity through a delicate catheter introduced through the cervix. The number of embryos transferred depends on many factors, including the woman's age and the quality of the embryos. The biomedical team will provide patients with the necessary information to decide the number of embryos suitable to be transferred to obtain a single pregnancy and avoid multiple gestation as much as possible.
Twelve days after the transfer, we analyze the ßHCG hormone levels, which allows the documentation of pregnancy. This hormone doubles its value every 1.5 to 2 days and provides valuable information related to the quality of gestation before it is visible with ultrasound. Transvaginal ultrasound allows visualization of a gestational sac within the uterus 21 days after the embryo transfer.
